2020 National Championships to Proceed

TTA is pleased to announce revised dates and locations for all 2020 National Championships, as follows:

• 2020 National Veterans Championships: Saturday 28 November to Saturday 5 December at Traralgon Sports Stadium
• 2020 National Senior, Youth, Junior & Para Championships: 11-20 December at Traralgon Sports Stadium

Upon making the announcement, TTA CEO Scott Houston commented, “The last few months have been very difficult for the entire table tennis community and we are hopeful this announcement will be an important pillar in the recovery of our sport. With restrictions being eased around Australia and spectators starting to be allowed back into sporting venues, TTA is confident that all 2020 National Championships can proceed. We were also very mindful of the feedback provided in the player survey, in particular around players still intending to compete in national events this year and a desire to see the events pushed back as late as possible. TTA now has time to prepare all required health and safety initiatives to ensure the safety of all participants”.

Houston went on to comment, “When we were considering venue options, Traralgon Sports Stadium ticked every box. It has just been fully rebuilt into a state-of-the-art facility and there is ample space available which is crucial from a social distancing perspective. Moreover, from a scheduling perspective, the venue could cater for both events over a three week period, which enabled our preferred option of holding the National Veterans Championships as a standalone event”.

TTA has also considered the impact that holding our 2020 National Championships in December will have on 2021 events. The 2021 National Championships will be held as follows:

• 2021 National Senior, Youth, Junior & Para Championships: July 2021 at a venue TBC. All options will be considered, taking into account the original scheduled locations for these events in 2020 and 2021 based on rotation.
• 2021 National Veterans Championships: September/October 2021 in Darwin. TTA thanks Table Tennis Northern Territory for their willingness to postpone the 2020 event by one year.
